Volunteer Ward Assistant - Broomfield Hospital

Volunteers are needed to assist and compliment the work of staff at Broomfield hospital for the benefit of patients.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Act as a friend to patients that have not received visitors.
• Welcome new admissions to the ward and make drinks for them or their visitors if required.
• Arrange flowers, clean vases and change the water.
• Assist in keeping the ward area tidy
• Circulate magazines between patients.
• Help with support groups.
• Assist in distributing the post.
• Assist in collecting/delivering notes.
• Assist in accompanying Patients to different departments.
• Assist the Ward Clerk in tidying notes.
• Assist the Housekeeper with drinks and meals.
• Assist patients with their discharge surveys.

What skills do I need?

The volunteer needs to be enthusiastic, flexible, patient and empathetic.

Able to use own initiative and possess effective communication skills.

Volunteers are reminded of the strict confidential nature of the role.

At no point is a volunteer to provide any clinical care to patients, or take on tasks that are the main duty of a paid worker. The aim of the role is to enhance the patient experience and make their time in hospital as comfortable as possible.

Due to the time and cost of recruiting a volunteer, they are required to volunteer for a minimum of 4 hours a week for 6 months.
