Free online session: Using Theory of Change and evaluation to demonstrate impact

14 September 2026

Join a free online session exploring how Theory of Change, realist evaluation and collaboration have helped provide valuable insight into a mental health recovery programme in Tendring.

The Greater Essex Research Community of Practice is hosting Emma Funnell, Chief Officer for Citizens Advice Tendring, on Thursday 17 September, 10am–11am.

Emma will explain how she has worked with Essex County Council and University College London to create an evaluation that has helped deliver real insight into the programme.

The session will cover:

  • How developing a Theory of Change helped communicate the value of the programme and support monitoring.
  • How this led to work with Dr Rachel Benchekroun from University College London on a piece of realist evaluation, revealing further insights from conversations with programme staff and participants.
  • How the findings are being linked to wider ideas around social networks, social infrastructure and recovery journeys.
  • Plans for a follow-up informal workshop inviting voluntary and community sector organisations to discuss insights and lessons learned around supporting people back into work.

Emma will be joined by:

  • Dr Rachel Benchekroun, University College London
  • Mike Williams, Essex County Council
  • Melissa Williamson, Essex County Council

This webinar will be particularly relevant to voluntary and community sector organisations interested in evaluation, demonstrating impact, mental health recovery or supporting people back into work.
