Membership

Maldon and District CVS (MDCVS) is a membership-based organisation that supports the voluntary sector in the Maldon District. Membership is open to organisations operating within the Maldon District and the wider area of benefit defined by our constitution, as the county of Essex. 

Engagement between MDCVS and the voluntary sector, at both strategic board and operational levels, is essential for understanding sector challenges, identifying key priorities, and raising awareness of community needs and to encourage this we have created a number of different membership levels to choose from.  

Membership is free but charges apply for accessing some services as detailed on our consultancy and training pages. 

Membership Level

Maldon and District Community Voluntary Services (MDCVS) offer four levels of membership as detailed below:

  • Voting Membership (General Membership) Voluntary sector organisations in the area can apply for voting membership. Members have a say in important decisions like electing trustees and can raise concerns during meetings. Each organisation gets one vote, which can be given to a staff member, volunteer, or trustee. Members receive news updates and event invitations. Applications need board approval, and contact details are reviewed yearly. 
  • Individual Membership This is for people passionate about supporting the charity’s mission. Usually limited to MDCVS Trustees, individual members get one vote. Applications must be approved by the board due to governance limits on this type of membership. 
  • Open Membership For voluntary sector organisations, their staff and volunteers working in the area. Open members get regular updates, access to community events, and can attend general meetings (but can’t vote). No board approval is needed, but organisations must be non-profit and active locally. Feedback and surveys are part of this membership to support improvement. 
  • Affiliate Membership For organisations like local authorities or emergency services that support the voluntary sector. Affiliate members receive updates, event invitations, and can attend general meetings, though they don’t have voting rights.

To register with us as a member at any level  we ask for an applications form to be completed. Please see the relevant links below:

Mailing list (individuals who are connected to existing members) 

If you have applied to have a voting membership your application will be reviewed by the MDCVS board of Trustees before being confirmed and you will be awarded a temporary open membership while that process is completed. 

This form will then be submitted to our Board of Trustees for approval at the next board meeting. These are held every 2 months. Once approved you will be a member and receive a membership certificate and welcome pack outlining our services.  Your details will be stored on our database in accordance with our Privacy Policy and current data protection legislation.

Renewal

If you are a voting member we will contact you on an annual basis requesting that you confirm or update your or your organisation’s details so that we can  maintain an active record of our membership. 

Annual renewal is not necessary for open and affiliate members, however we may contact you to complete a survey, detailing your satisfaction with our support and suggest any additional support services.
