Action for Family Carers group in Great Dunmow is specifically for people suffering from dementia or other memory difficulties. They run weekly and offers a variety of activities. In the mornings, the group focus on keeping physically active and in the afternoon, they offer a variety of cognitive activities. Each session (morning and afternoon) runs for two and a half hours. They are looking for volunteers to support these sessions.
What the role involves:
• Greeting people as they arrive
• Making tea and coffee
• Getting stuck into the activities to support our group members
• Chatting to our group members and be willing to lead conversations
• Helping to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere
• Leading small groups in activities under the direction of our staff
• Helping to keep our members safe and happy
You will need to be:
• A real “people person”
• Warm and friendly
• Happy to chat and share experiences
• Understanding and sympathetic
• Willing to make tea and coffee and make sure everyone’s cup is topped up
• Available on a regular basis as part of a volunteer rota
• Aware of, or willing to learn about, the needs of people with dementia or memory difficulties
