Community Champions bring local people and services together to improve health and wellbeing for Harlow residents. Our aim is to make positive change to our community, and you will do this by helping the Community Hub share information with as many local residents as possible. You will raise awareness of local issues and take action in the community to improve the health and wellbeing of local residents. The list below will give you an idea of what opportunities you could be involved in, you are not expected to do all these, and this is not an exhaustive list. · Sharing information about local services and activities to others in the community for them to try new things, meet new people and re-connect with where they live and work · Helping others in the community to identify local issues · Supporting Rainbow Services and Community Hub partners to run community events and workshops Volunteer Essex opportunity form – June 2019 · Making links with existing groups and networks that may want to be involved including professional organisations · Encouraging and inspiring others to take ownership of their own health · Using and developing your knowledge of the local area to identify new opportunities and build relationships · Completing the required core and ongoing training and development

What skills do I need?

· Have good communication skills · Be proactive and keen to look for new opportunities · Have a keen interest in supporting your community · Ability to build relationships and work as part of a team · Be reliable, consistent and dependable · Be patient, empathetic and non-judgemental · An ability to recognise the boundaries of the volunteering role · Ability to work independently but know when to seek advice or report concerns · Ability to be flexible and to use own initiative · Willingness to travel in your local area · Good organisational and time-keeping skills What do I need to become a Community Champion? · Be aged 18 years or above Volunteer Essex opportunity form – June 2019 · Live in Harlow · Not a Council Member or intention of standing to be a County, District or Town and Parish Council member · Have time to commit to volunteering · Be passionate about engaging communities · Be committed to improve the health and wellbeing of your community · Be able to attend training sessions · Access to a mobile or email for communicating · Availability to attend at least two volunteer training events a year · Agree to read and abide by Rainbow Services’ policies and procedures including but not restricted to, safeguarding, confidentiality and lone working
