Community Speed Watch volunteer

For Safer Essex Roads Partnership

Register your interest

Community Speed Watch Groups consist of volunteers from their local community, who all share the same concerns about speeding through their local villages. These volunteers are from all walks of life, with a variety of skill sets and knowledge, who give up their free time to assist with the Vision Zero aims of reducing the number of fatalities and serious injuries on our roads, caused by speeding, and create a visible presence to alert drivers that speed is a leading cause of road traffic collisions in Essex.

Vision Zero is a multidisciplinary approach by the Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP), bringing together diverse stakeholders to address this complex problem, whilst acknowledging that many factors contribute to safe mobility — including roadway design, speeds and behaviours.  This Partnership currently supports more than 1,000 trained volunteers across the County.

The Essex Community Speed Watch scheme is co-ordinated by the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and works in partnership with Essex Police and Essex Highways.

There are Community Speed Watch groups actively volunteering across all areas in Essex but many are desperate for more volunteers, in order to keep the groups operational.
