Voluntary Action Epping Forest run a digital skills and
inclusion service in Epping Forest district (Power UP! Project). We are looking
for team volunteers to help residents facing digital barriers and lacking
skills, confidence or access to the online world. You do not need to be a digital expert yourself, just interested in developing your skills.
What you'll be doing:
As a Digital Champion Volunteer, you'll have the rewarding
opportunity to:
- Assist
people, 1-2-1 at advertised digital support drop-in surgeries in Epping
Forest
- Help
deliver group digital skills workshops in the local community, with local
groups and booked on sessions
- Learn
about digital self-learning platforms (Learn My Way, Essex Digital
Help-finder) in order to help others to improve their digital skills

What skills do I need?
To succeed in this volunteer role, we’re looking for
individuals who possess the following qualities and skills:
- Confident digital skills: You do not need to be an expert in IT or using different digital devices, but a basic level of digital skills and confidence will be helpful in coaching and supporting others.
- Friendly
and Approachable: You’ll be the welcoming, helping everyone feel comfortable
and supported. A positive attitude and a genuine desire to connect with
others are essential.
- Good
Communication Skills: You should feel confident engaging in
conversations with a wide variety of people. Listening carefully to people
with digital barriers and helping them at their pace is a big part of this
role.
- Empathy
and Understanding: Many of our guests may be older or vulnerable, and
it’s important to be patient, compassionate, and sensitive to their needs.
- Reliability
and Punctuality: We require Digital Champion Volunteers to attend
advertised drop-in surgeries, workshops and support appointments at agreed
times, to time-keeping and self-organisation / planning are important.
- Willingness
to Learn: You don’t need prior experience, but a desire to learn new
things and be open to guidance will help you thrive in this role. Full
support and training will be provided.
