For QVSR Tilbury Seafarers Centre

Register your interest

This is an exciting opportunity to meet and engage with people from all around the world; these are the seafarers aboard the container ships which bring 95% of all our everyday goods (e.g. food, clothes, electrical items, cars) to our island nation. The crews will often have been away at sea for up to 9 months with no contact with family and friends. They will be looking forward to visiting the seafarers’ centre in their off-duty hours for some rest and relaxation and an opportunity to access the internet to re-connect with family. As a volunteer driver you can help us to transfer the seafarers between the ship and the seafarers’ centre; this could be around the Port of Tilbury or between Tilbury and DP World (Stanford-Le-Hope), maybe also to the local shops or Lakeside.

The QVSR Seafarers’ Centre at the Port of Tilbury is managed by the Queen Victoria Seamen’s Rest, a charity established in 1843 to look after the welfare of seafarers visiting the Port of London. Over 8,500 seafarers visit the centre at Tilbury each year and we aim to provide them with a welcoming environment where they can relax, catch up with family and friends via the internet and enjoy a game of pool, table tennis or basketball.
