The Board of Trustees are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of Home-Start Essex, developing the organisations aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines. Fulfilling the organisations objectives to the families we support, staff, volunteers, funders, and the wider community.

We welcome applications from anyone with a passion for what we do. We are however particularly interested in applicants with a strong background in one or more of the following areas:

·       Governance,

·       People management (either as an HR professional or manager of teams of people)

·       Digital and IT.

Role: 

With other trustees to hold Home-Start Essex in trust for current and future beneficiaries by: 

·     providing leadership and direction within the ethos and values of Home-Start 

·     ensuring that Home-Start Essex has a clear mission, vision and strategic direction and is focussed on achieving these

·     being responsible for the effective performance and management and ensuring that Home-Start Essex complies with all legal and regulatory requirements, the objects of the charity, the governing documents including the Home-Start Standards and Methods of Practice and the Agreement and quality standards 

·     securing and acting as guardians of Home-Start Essex assets 

·     continually striving for best practice in governance, that adds to public confidence and trust in the charity 

·     undertaking an ambassadorial role for Home-Start Essex

·     promoting and developing the charity in order for it to grow and maintain its relevance to society

·     appointing committees of the Board and agreeing their terms of reference  

What skills do I need?

.       Comfortable using Office 365 and the Microsoft Office suite eg Outlook, TEAMS, Word, Excel etc

·       Good listening, oral and literacy skills

·       Articulate and able to communicate effectively

·       Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort

·       Good, independent judgement

·       Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Trusteeship

·       Abiding by Nolan's seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and          leadership

Availability Details

Board meetings are held every quarter and we invite Trustees to also join one of 3 operational committees which also meet each quarter. There is an annual Strategy Planning Day and opportunities to meet at Staff Meetings, training and volunteer events throughout the year.
