At Essex recovery Foundation we are growing a Recovery Community in Essex that is connected, visible, empowered and ready for opportunities!   

The Recovery Community is a combination of people with lived experience of addiction, people affected by someone else addiction and people working within the treatment services who support people who are experiencing addition. 

We want to create spaces across Essex for the recovery community to come together and this role will help with that.

 

This volunteer role will support the delivery of the Recovery Spaces in venues across Essex.  Supervised by the Community engagement worker, volunteers will help with the smooth running of each session and will be part of team that create a space in which people want to come together each week.

 

Role Description:

 

To assist and support the community engagement lead to; 

•           Ensure that recovery spaces are warm, welcoming and people are able to take part fully – be a host on the day along with the community engagement lead and help to “vibe watch”

•           Promote other ERF or relevant local activities and be ready to signpost to services should the need arise.

•           Support the community engagement lead to gather monitoring and feedback information at sessions.

•           Ensure that people attending the sessions are encouraged to register with the Essex Recovery Foundation to find out more about us and be connected for future plans

•           Help set up and pack up for sessions.

•           From time to time, lead the session if the community engagement lead cannot attend.

 

What skills do I need?

  • Have an insight and understanding into knowing what recovery means.
  • Confidence in meeting new people, talking and starting conversations.
  • Good communication skills
  • Knowledge of how people can access help and support for addiction.
  • Able to “read the room” tune into people who want to chat or be left alone for a bit.
  • Sensitive to situations and confident to intervene when someone needs introducing to others, redirecting to another activity or a 1:1 conversation 
  • An ability to encourage people to participate or engage with each other.
  • Can make a good cup of tea or able to take a long order of coffee, sugars etc

We currently have 4 regular recovery spaces running between 10:30am-12:30pm Harlow – Wednesday morning Basildon – Thursday morning Chelmsford – Thursday morning Colchester – Friday morning Thurrock in the process of being set up.
