Social Group Coordinator for the visually impaired

BASIS is a sight loss society supporting blind and visually impaired people across South Essex. We have been established for 26 years and look after around 900 people currently.

We host a social group/coffee morning once a month at Bellmaine Avenue in Corringham where around 15 of our visually impaired members meet to socialise and gain support from their peers.

We are currently looking for a volunteer to assist with the smooth running of the group by making teas and coffees, coming up with activities such as quizzes, raffles, speakers and craft making.

The ideal candidate would be confident in facilitating conversations between the members, welcoming newcomers and giving some direction to the group each month.

The sessions are regularly attended by colleagues from Thurrock Social care as well as occasionally visited by staff from BASIS who are on hand to offer information and support with sight loss related issues.

Full training would be provided but the key skills we are looking for are a friendly disposition and someone to embrace the group and make it their own.
