Springfield District Neighbourhood Watch Volunteer (SD-NHW)

For Springfield District Neighbourhood Watch

Register your interest

SD-NHW needs twelve new street coordinators across the wards of Trinity, The Lawns, North Springfield, Chelmer Village and Beaulieu Park. The role is voluntary and involves getting to know your neighbours and ensuring they’re aware of preventative measures to help keep them safer from crime and anti-social behaviour. If crimes do occur in a road, the coordinator will if needed; help a member report an incident affecting them and provide Essex Police with the crime information. SD-NHW coordinators also deliver paper newsletters several times a year to those members that don’t have broadband or mobile phones & collect annual membership fees. A coordinator may, if they choose, also use the SD-NHW forum to improve their road’s community spirit by organising coffee mornings and other events. Coordinator meetings are held to exchange information and views on reducing crime across our area.

What skills do I need?

There is no need for specific qualifications. Coordinators should be honest of course, enjoy talking with people of all ages and wish to help others.

Availability Details

The time coordinators are needed is flexible. The busiest time for coordinators is when membership fees are paid (bank BACS transfers can help minimise this) and newsletters need to be delivered (most may be sent via email). Several hours may also be needed if a local crime has impacted members in the coordinator’s road/s. Time is dependent on the number of members the coordinator has but typically would not exceed a couple of hours a month.
