Volunteers are invited to join a small, dedicated, friendly group who enjoy working in the open air, to plant trees in the Witham area in the autumn and winter months and water them in spring/ summer – maintaining their own fitness and fun social contact as well as Witham’s growing population of trees. Our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/withamtreegroup/)illustrates our activities well.
The current, active group of volunteers are retirees who regularly devote Thursday mornings toWTG activities, but help from others, from schoolchildren to unemployed people to employees taking time off work to volunteer with us, has always been very welcome. Other times could be considered, particularly if a new volunteer able to fill and tow the water bowser came forward. The mid-morning break for coffee or tea and biscuits always provides a welcome opportunity for a chat and a breather. There are no current committee vacancies but volunteers’ ideas and suggestions on a wide range of matters to do with the Group’s activities are welcomed.
Reasonable level of fitness for e.g. digging, and for repeatedly filling and carrying full watering cans (ideally two at a time for up to 20 yards).
Availability on Thursday mornings (mostly).
Own car helpful but not essential as lifts to the various sites can be provided.
Interest from a retired driver with their own vehicle suitable for towing a trailer / bowser, and relevant experience, would be especially welcome.
