Volunteer Telephone Befriender

Everyone needs other people but not everyone has someone.

Essex Home Help Service are looking for volunteers to support with our Telephone Befriending Service.

We are offering a telephone befriending service which is designed to be supportive, reliable and enable friendships to be built through volunteer befrienders for people who may otherwise be socially isolated.

You will come into our friendly offices in Ford End, Chelmsford for a 2 hours per week to make telephone befriending calls.

What we will do:

★We will provide you with a volunteer induction and training.

★ All travel expenses will be covered.

★ You will be allocated a Supervisor and invited to attend regular catch ups with them.

★ You will be invited to attend quarterly drop-in sessions with other volunteers.

★ We will support to increase wellbeing, greater sense of connection and learning new skills

What skills do I need?

• Over 18 and have 2 hours a week free to be a telephone befriender.
• Excellent listening skills and enjoy speaking on the telephone.
• Ability to strike up a conversation.
• Able to build relationships.
• Can maintain confidentiality.
• Reliable.
