Our Down-To-Earth Community Allotment and Garden support vulnerable adults through the power of gardening. Every week we come together and build community, social skills and self-esteem through a semi-guided gardening session, where we grow our own plants, look after this beautiful space and take the time to talk, allowing us to connect with nature and each other.
Facilitated by our expert Horticultural Facilitator, volunteers join some of our weekly sessions to help us to look after the garden and ensure that our participants have the best possible experience at our sites.
Currently all of the food grown at the allotments is shared amongst the volunteers as they learn about food production and sustainability. We also engage people with the subjects of nutrition and cooking, with any surplus donated to Sanctus, a charity that helps feed the homeless and vulnerable people in the local area.
There is always an opportunity to chat to neighbouring allotment holders, exchange produce and gardening tips and provide a real sense of community.
The site is part of the Melbourne Community Allotments Association
No special skills required, we learn as we grow together.
