Special Constables are volunteer police officers, they don't get paid but have the same police powers, uniforms and equipment as regular police officers.
So, if you've ever thought 'I don't see enough Bobbies on the beat where I live' or 'I think I could make a difference to my community' then we want to hear from you.
As a Community Special Constable, you will volunteer predominantly in a participating parish or town council area in Essex. You will be given the training and support you
need to prepare you in becoming a Community Special Constable and to play your part in making the area where you live or work a safer place to be.
· You will make a difference to people and their communities.
· You'll build your confidence.
· You'll develop new skills in a unique and challenging role.
· You'll have opportunities for promotion in a rank structure that mirrors regular officers.
· You'll have funded access to the Police Federation.
· You can sign up for a Blue Light card, which gives you discount from thousands of retailers.
· You're reimbursed for expenses. This includes cost of travel (by car or public transport) to your home station (40 mile limit) and during training,. You're also reimbursed for parking costs and subsistence on shift too.
· You'll have opportunities to progress in specialist roles too. This could be within our Roads Policing Unit, Investigative Teams, Dog Section, Marine Unit or specialist Airport teams.
· You'll have the chance to complete public order training as well as advanced driver training and detective accreditation.
· You'll have access to body worn video cameras and a work mobile device too.
· You'll need to be at least 17-years-old at the point of application. If you are 17, you can go through
the recruitment and selection process, but will not be able to start until you have turned 18.
· You will need to complete, on average, 16 operational hours a month. You'll also need to complete
two more hours a month through engagement training and associated development processes.
· You'll need to meet the required fitness standard.
· And you'll need to commit to the initial 20 days of training.
