As we expand our services, we are specifically seeking people who have skills and time to help us with activities that do not involve making radio programmes, for example, publicity and PR, fund-raising, relationship management with voluntary groups and healthcare organisations, and technical support for the wider broadcasting system (e.g.. maintaining equipment in other premises).
Broadcasting programming through the internet enabling us to reach patients receiving care / after-care at home, and facilitating closer links between patients in hospital with family & friends at home
Using the internet facility to broadcast into other healthcare related premises we are exploring how to reach into doctors' surgery waiting rooms, pharmacies etc
Working with local voluntary groups to promote their services where they benefit the health and well-being of people in Chelmsford and district
Working with the proposed Chelmsford community radio station to provide programmes that benefit the health and well-being of people in Chelmsford and district
No technical knowledge of radio is needed but we will need relevant skills and experience in the area the volunteer wants to help with. Volunteers should be able to treat patients with kindness, empathy and respect and abide by our Rules for Members at all times so that patients have the proper level of protection. Volunteers dealing with external organisations must act professionally and in a manner that does not bring the service into disrepute.
Benefits: We see the extension of HRC's services as complementary to the future direction of the NHS in providing effective and efficient healthcare in Chelmsford and mid Essex community. Providing healthcare and voluntary services information will enable local people to access the services they need in the most efficient way. Therefore, volunteers can develop their specific area of skills whilst knowing that their efforts are helping to people in the local community to live well and stay well. Also, when people need to go to hospital, the radio service makes the stay more bearable, reduce loneliness and enables patients to stay in touch with family and friends at home.
