Do you have the skills and background to become our next Treasurer?

As a trustee of Uttlesford Citizens Advice you could use your experience, together with your knowledge of the local area, to make a positive impact by ensuring our charity is sustainable and continues to meet the needs of the community.

Evening meetings are usually held in Saffron Walden, 8 times a year. In addition, there will be some ad hoc meetings connected with Frontline Referrals - a non-profit company wholly owned and controlled by Uttlesford Citizens Advice.

What skills do I need?

Trustees are volunteers who are expected to use their skills, knowledge, and experience to help guide and govern our local charity. They work with our Chief Executive and other members of the board to shape strategy and give direction.

This includes making sure that we are:

  • Doing what our charity was set-up to do - offering high quality advice services to the local community.
  • Complying with the law, including upkeep of premises, insurance, recruitment, and equipment.
  • Securing money to meet current and new demands, and that all funds are used responsibly.
  • Recognised and valued by local organisations, funders and people, who are aware of the vital service that we provide.

To undertake the specific role of Treasurer, you will need to demonstrate the following personal skills and qualities:

  • understand and accept the responsibilities and liabilities as trustees
  • have financial qualifications or experience
  • some knowledge or experience of charity finances, fundraising, financial consequences and pension schemes
  • be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own
  • have good listening, verbal and written communication skills
  • be able to exercise good independent judgment and if necessary to make difficult recommendations
  • excellent good numeracy skills to understand accounts
  • be able to explain complex financial information in an accessible way
  • be willing to learn about and follow Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection
  • be willing to undertake training in your role

Attendance at regular meetings is expected by all trustees. Sometimes trustees will get involved in additional governance projects, such as supporting fundraising, developing strategy or overseeing HR procedures.

We welcome people of all ages, backgrounds and experience who are passionate about advice services and can bring innovative ideas, unique perspectives and good judgement.
