Register your interestTrustees are volunteers who bring specific skills to board and Management meetings.
The Trustee role is to assist management to set and implement policy and to provide guidance to senior managers where their particular skill set comes into play.
Trustees do not have a specific role unless circumstances, and the chairman decide one might apply. Trustees are not expected to give up a great deal of time, normally there are 5/6 scheduled meetings per year, plus ad hoc meetings as the business dictates.
Meetings do not have to be attended in person but can be joined on-line. Meetings generally take place in the afternoon and may last 2-3 hours. Trustees are expected to make themselves aware of the scale and scope of the business and will be assisted in this by both existing trustees and senior management.
Current trustees bring accounting, legal, organisational, management and wider knowledge of the social housing market to the table. New trustees might bring health and welfare expertise, HR, care and support expertise, a local authority background especially with a knowledge of the social housing sector would be a big advantage.
Otherwise experience in business development and management are essential as is the ability to understand and interpret management accounts.
