Little Baddow History Centre houses the parish archives, other historical artefacts and an art collection in a purpose built building. The archive was collected over many years and today there is a small team of volunteers collating the data with the intention of making the information, in the form of documents, maps and photos available to anyone anywhere in the world via our website.
Volunteers are required to work within a small team, in a variety of roles however we aim to introduce volunteers to aspects of history research they enjoy.
We are particularly looking for someone to organise the weekly running of the centre in the summer months including the promotion of a limited number of books on Little Baddow History.
The History Centre is open twice a week in a period between April and October for visitors to seek help with their queries , which can cover a variety of topics including local or family history. It is opened by special appointment at other times to accommodate any visitors from overseas with links to the village or the United Reform Chapel , which is located next door. Throughout the year enquiries are also received via our website.
The hours of opening are:
Thursday 10am - 12 noon
Sunday 2pm - 4.00pm
We attempt to have two people on duty per session so a flexible rota is employed to cover the opening times.
Volunteers are required to be friendly, reliable and at ease talking to visitors.
Computer literacy is essential.
Volunteers can expect to be introduced to the centre and the processes adopted by several experienced members of the team and learn a number of new skills as we complete our mission to archive the data for future generations.
