Café Refreshments Assistant

The Royal Gunpowder Mills is a 170 acre site protected for its’ industrial heritage and natural history. Almost thewhole site is classed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (SAM) and is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). 

We open to the public to share the exhibitions and offer tours and activities. We run a schools programme that fits with the history of the site and the National Curriculum. We offer hire space and interesting environments for filming. 

The charity’s aims are to protect, preserve and enhance the special aspects of the site and to share the story of the industrial and social history, the science and the nature

About the role:

Visitors can enjoy refreshments in the café. We are looking for individuals to prepare and serve drinks and biscuits in the café for visiting groups and on event days. 

The Inside and outside eating areas need to be kept presentable and clean ensuring a pleasant experience for the customers. We need volunteers to assist in providing a friendly atmosphere to ensure the visitors enjoy their day out. 

What skills do I need?

We seek someone: 

- Who is able to work with a wide range of the public in a calm, helpful and friendly way. 

- With good general hygiene standards and ability to understand and follow the hygiene procedures for the café. 

- Who will give a professional impression to the visitors by dressing appropriately and presenting a clean and tidy image. 

- With the ability and enthusiasm to develop a basic knowledge of, and keep up-to-date with the café, and general, facilities, activities and events. 

- With the ability to maintain a calm and efficient attitude on busy days. 

Desirable skills/experience/attributes (not essential) 

• Experience of working/volunteering in a café setting or similar. 

• Experience in working with the public. 

• Food Hygiene certificate level two.

• First Aid Qualification.
