Community Fridge Volunteer - Jubilee Hub

Food waste is a big issue in the UK. It is estimated that a third of all food gets wasted. Most of this is avoidable and could have been eaten had it been better managed.

The Jubilee Hub Community Fridge in Saffron Walden, will help cut food waste and build stronger bonds within the community. Once the food has been collected from our project partners, it can then be offered free of charge to anyone wishing to visit the Community Fridge.

We need volunteers to help us in the following ways:

• To collect food from local food donors and partner organisations
  
• Ensure the fridge is clean and working within correct temperature guidelines
• Keeping records to evidence correct monitoring
  
• Promoting the fridge in the local community

A clean driving licence and access to a vehicle is preferable in order to pick up food. However, if you are not able to drive, you can still volunteer as there are lots of other tasks that you can help with.

What skills do I need?

Driving is an advantage.

Understanding of food expiry date labels.

Ability to recognise damaged packaging/ contaminated food in packaging.

Basic food hygiene training is an advantage.

You will receive instructions on how to perform the role and basic volunteer training.
