Help reshape financial management within Essex Air Cadets as their Wing Treasurer

For Essex Wing Association, Royal Air Force Air Cadets

Register your interest

Our current Wing Treasurer is retiring from the role, although remaining a member of the Wing Executive and ready to support the new incumbent in settling in.

Presently, all bookkeeping is via scripted spreadsheets.

Besides keeping account records, the role is two-fold:

  • Manage Wing finances – collecting levies and fees for Wing events, and meeting Wing expenses – and providing a monthly finance report to the Wing Trustees.
  • Being ready to give support / guidance when necessary to those Squadron Treasurers new to their role.

Nationally, plans exist to make all Wings registered charities and to centralise the bookkeeping of all Squadron level funds using Xero accounting software within the next two years.  The transition, whilst necessary, will be challenging for most Association members across our 26 Squadrons.

What skills do I need?

No formal qualifications required but prior experience of simple (receipts and payments) bookkeeping using both spreadsheets and small business accounting software (e.g. Xero) is a definite advantage.

Experience of dealing with the Charities Commission and with HMRC (for Gift Aid) would also be useful.

Most importantly, however, we’re looking for a team player with good interpersonal skills as almost everyone the role holder will come into contact with is a volunteer!
